According to Natural News, New York
Citymade news when they approved of the "Fruit and Vegetables Prescription
Program.” As per this program, the doctors can now prescribe fresh fruits and
vegetables to patients who are suffering from obesity or overweight problems by
offering them “Health Bucks” that can be easily redeemed at any local farmer’s
market. But this step is strongly protested by the FDA, because according to
them, fruits and vegetables don’t play any role in improving an individual’s
health. Although present day knowledge of nutrition and diseases is completely
different, the fact remains that it is still a federal policy. And as such, the
doctors are promoting unapproved drugs and hence it is violating the federal
law.

Deputy Mayor for Health and Human
Services Linda I. Gibbs, along with Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas A. Farley
and Health and Hospitals Corporation President Alan D. Aviles, has taken two
initiatives to increase New Yorkers' access to farm produce. The Fruit and
Vegetable Prescription Program is one of them and the other one is the “Come
See What’s Cookin’, Kids” program, which aims to bring healthy eating habits
amongst school children. In addition to these two initiatives, the SNAP
incentive program is aiming to make fresh fruits and vegetables more accessible
to the common man by reducing their price. As a result of this, there will be
an increase of 32% compared to last year. These initiatives are a great effort
on part of the government that hardly does anything in favor of the common
people. This initiative is widely appreciated by the common people as it is
propagating a way of healthy living.
